I, Kumar Salva Raghuvanshi(AIR 68, CLAT PG 2016 & AIR 11, CLAT PG 2017), currently designated as Senior Legal Officer in a Navratna Company of Government of India. I have done my LL.M in Business Laws from National Law School of India University, Bangalore. Prior to that I did my B.Com-LL.B (Hons.) from Amity Law School where I was a Gold Medallist and Merit cum means scholarship holder for five consecutive years.-PSU

I hail from a small village situated in the outskirts of Jaunpur District of Uttar Pradesh. My father has his business in the village and mother is a social worker.

• Share your Views on PSUs and How CLAT PG is related to PSUs?

Working in PSUs is a dream of many people mainly because of the work environment and family feeling associated with other colleagues. PSUs like ONGC, OIL India, PGCL, IOCL, BHEL etc. who want to recruit legal executive does it based in the rank of the candidate in CLAT-PG exam.

• What fascinates you to go for PSU?

PSUs have been fascinating for many mainly because you get a lot of time for yourself and your family. Apart from that salary/perks are awesome. You get rewarded for your work. A sense of satisfaction is always there. Job security is another aspect. Essentially if you work for the company then company will work for you.

• According to you, what is the minimum cut-off in CLAT PG for getting a call for PSU Interview?

Cut-off differs from year to year. However, the companies call upto 4-5 times of the advertised vacancy.

• Are the students required to register with PSU separately for appearing in PSU Interview?

Yes, one has to register individually for each PSU they want to appear by logging to the website of the company.

• Is there any difference between the preparations for CLAT PG for LLM and CLAT PG for PSU? If yes, How to prepare for the PSU?

Yes, getting into NLUs for doing LL.M is very easy if one is having sound knowledge of the subjects. However, if one is aspiring to get PSU, then it requires rigorous study throughout length and breadth of the subjects. Since the paper is divided into three sections, each carrying 50 marks. Out of which 50 questions comes from Constitution and 50 questions from Jurisprudence. Thus, one has to have all the Bare Act provisions of Constitution in their mind thoroughly. Sometimes questions come in a very technical form in which candidate does click on the wrong options and after coming out of the examination hall they realise their mistakes. So, essentially questions are easy but they are framed differently to confuse the candidate. In such  questions candidate is required to apply its mind very effectively to avoid negative marking.

For Jurisprudence, which has always been the problem of many as they forget whatever they have studied the very next day. So, I would just say that try solving as much MCQs as you can and do daily revision which will help you to remember while solving the questions.

For other subjects, Bare Act reading and following any of the suitable guides would suffice.

• Share your experience about PSU Interview.

I appeared for the interview of 2 (two) PSUs which are currently working in the exploration and production of oil. In my first interview I was asked questions on Company Law, Arbitration and Conciliation, Industrial Dispute, HR related questions, and few question on general knowledge. Few question asked with me are as follows:

1. What is the relevance of Independent Directors?
2. What is the role of women in Company Act, 2013?
3. What are the recent amendment to Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 2015?
4. What is the objective of Industrial Dispute Act?
5. Question on Corporate Social Responsibility.
6. Questions on general knowledge was in the nature of “WHO IS WHO”

I was asked the first question as to what will be my future plans if I get selected in the company. I became over confident and started giving big big shots as to UPSC and Judicial exams. At the end of the interview the senior most person in the panel brought this thing and said why should I appoint you if you have a plan to leave the company in future. So, I became nervous and it turned against me. So, you have to be very cautious while answering. Just show them that you will get superannuated in that company only.

I was selected in my second interview which lasted for over one hour where I was asked question from Law of Torts, Factory Act, I.T. Act, Industrial Disputes Act, Company Law, RTI Act, Society Registration Act, Criminal Law. Question were also asked about the company and the nature of work it is involved. So, one has to have fair knowledge about working of the company.

• What is the approach to tackle PSU Interview?

Be prepared with every law with which company is dealing. Also, you must have fair knowledge about the company and its operations, branch and name of important officials like name of CMD, independent director etc. Also, “LUCK” plays well during PSU interviews.

• There is a myth that to crack the PSU through CLAT PG, you need prior work experiences. What is your take on that?

Yes, it’s a big myth except the companies which have mentioned clearly that they need experienced persons. Otherwise, all my colleagues who are selected are just freshers except few.
