- Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Jodhpur, Rajasthan from where I went to Delhi to pursue my BA LLB at the National Law University, Delhi. After graduating in 2016, I worked with Luthra and Luthra Law Offices till January, 2018 in the capacity of an Associate in their Infrastructure Projects team. Thereafter, I quit the job to devote time to preparing for the CLAT LLM exam.
- Share your views on this Year’s CLAT LLM Paper.
According to me, this year’s question paper saw a marked shift from recent years. The questions were designed to test the legal knowledge and awareness of candidates in greater depth. While the section on Jurisprudence was along predictable lines, Constitutional Law was heavier on case-law and Section C, in a departure from previous years, covered a wider range of topics.
- What is your strategy For the Exam?
I have covered the answer to this in detail in later questions.
- According to you, when is the perfect time for a final year student to start the preparation for CLAT LLM?
Ideally, students in their final year of college must start brushing up their basics and preparing notes from the start of the year itself. This is because, the final year of law school is replete with other activities and it is nearly impossible to give CLAT complete attention in the last few months. The final semester is the time when they must focus on revising all the topics and filling in any gaps they perceive in their preparation. One can also start taking mock tests during this time.
- Do you think that one month is enough for preparing CLAT LLM?
I honestly feel that with the changing pattern of the exam and increasing competition, it is imperative that one is well-versed with all parts of the syllabus. For that, one month might not be usually sufficient to achieve a decent rank.
- How have you conquered the Jurisprudence?
Frankly, this was my favourite section of the syllabus and I had spent the maximum amount of time on reading and preparing notes on Jurisprudence in detail. Though this is a tedious and time-consuming process, it can be highly rewarding. I used a combination of textbook (VD Mahajan) and LLM guides to prepare for the subject.
- How have you dealt with the Constitution?
There is no better source for the Constitution than the bare text. One must know the articles thoroughly, as questions are sometimes asked regarding the minute details that we usually miss. Apart from this, any standard textbook can be used to to shore up knowledge on certain dimensions not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution along with the landmark judgements, both historical and recent. I used sources like Livelaw and other blogs for this.
- How have you prepared for Other Law Subjects?
First off, it is important to know that apart from a few subjects like Law of Contracts, Tort, Criminal Law and International Law, it is nearly impossible to predict what questions will be asked in this section. I initially focused on these areas, using bare acts and LLM guides available in the market. For other subjects like IPR, Family law etc, I relied on notes/articles found over the internet.
- Is the information provided by Jurisedge Portal helpful for LLM exam aspirants?
I found the Jurisedge portal very informative and user-friendly. The mock tests are immensely helpful in gauging one’s level of preparation.
