REVIEW OF GNLU: SHOULD YOU PURSUE YOUR LLM FROM GNLU?

The Gujarat National Law University(GNLU) is a statutory university established by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003. It is located in the capital city of Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The socially sustainable 50 acre campus is home to its students as well the staff. The University provides 2 types of Postgraduate Courses expanding over a period of 1 and 2 years respectively. They are the postgraduate programme for One Year LLM and 2 years MBA in Financial Management and Business Laws.

In order to take admission in the former course i.e. the one year LLM programme one has to have a LLB degree with not less than 55% percent along with qualifying in the CLAT-PG examination. GNLU provides specialisation in Corporate and Business Law, International Comparative Law, Intellectual Property Laws, Constitutional and Administrative Law and Legal Education, Teaching and Research. It has a total of 60 seats with 38 being reserved for the General Category and rest being reserved for various quotas.

The Course is divided into two semesters with Semester 1 having 3 core papers such as Comparative Public Law, Research Methods and Legal Writing and Law and Justice in a Globalising World. The 1^st Semester also has two specialisation papers each from the 5 categories of subjects aforementioned.

The Directors, Deans and Professors are very much accessible to all the LLM students. The LLM batch will also be given opportunity to form a placement committee of their own which shall be headed one of the professors who would facilitate the entire process of placement. Various students have been placed in Companies such as Tech Mahindra, HDFC Ergo, Cadilla Pharmaceuticals, Torrent, Adani etc. Various litigation firms, universities and government bodies also recruit the LLM students.

GNLU also provides in-house assistance to students who are appearing for various competitive exams such as the National Eligibility Test, the Judicial Exams etc. GNLU has made the publishing of a paper in an ISSN numbered journal along with observation of 10 undergrad classes mandatory, thus encouraging the students further to delve into research. It is also equipped with a 3 storey library which is open from 7am-12am everyday with very facilitating librarians and staff.

Thus, all in all, it provides a very suitable environment for the students to thrive and achieve excellence in their careers.
