NET JRF (National Eligibility Test for Junior Research Fellowship) is a National Level Test conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) on behalf of UGC (University Grants Commission). The UGC offers JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) scholarships to those talented candidates who qualify the exam with a meritorious score. The exam is conducted twice a year, i.e., during June and December. It encourages the Postgraduate students to undertake advanced studies and research work leading to M.Phil/Ph.D. Degrees.
NET JRF Score
NET JRF score is used by the Candidates to get admission into M.Phil/Ph.D degree courses to undertake research fellowship. The fellowship is tenable for 2 years in which the eligible candidates receive a monthly stipend of up to INR 31,000. Only after registration in any UGC recognized institution, the Candidates receive financial assistance under the JRF scheme. Once the duration of JRF is completed, the fellows are promoted as Senior Research Fellows based on their performance, and the fellowship gets extended for another three years.
NET
shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment
of Assistant Professors in Universities/Colleges.
Eligibility for NET JRF Exam
The
Candidates are required to have obtained a Master’s Degree or equivalent with
55% marks. The Candidates belonging to reserved categories are eligible for 5%
relaxation in the marks.
The
upper age limit for this exam is 30 years, which is relaxed up to 5 years for
SC/ST/PWD/Female Candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates). The candidates
having research experience are also eligible for a maximum of 5 years of age
relaxation.
NET JRF- Exam Pattern
The candidates appear for two papers – Paper 1
and Paper 2, conducted as Computer Based Test (CBT). Objective type of
questions is asked in both the papers, in which paper 1 is of 100 marks and
Paper 2 is 200 marks. The question in Paper 1 is of general nature, and they
aim to evaluate the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. These
questions also assess the reasoning ability, comprehension etc. of the
candidate. The question of Paper 2 covers the subject selected by the
candidate.
