About UGC-NET

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test is an examination conducted on the national level twice every year. It aims at determining the eligibility of the candidates for the post of Assistant Professor via NET and Junior Research Fellowship via JRF

The UGC- NET, via a public notice dated 10th August, has notified that on account of the Covid 19 pandemic, the schedule of the UGC NET 2021 June cycle has been delayed. Therefore, the Commission has merged both the UGC-NET cycles of December 2020 and June 2021, which shall now be conducted together in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

The candidates who had already registered for the December 2020 cycle but could not complete the application process are also allowed to submit the application online.  The notification issued by UGC-NET also clarifies that the slots of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of both December 2020 and June 2021 will be merged.

Timeline Of The Exam

The list of important dates and details for UGC-NET June 2021 are as provided:

Last date for filling the application form (online only) 6th September 2021 (11:50 P.M.)
Correction in application form (online mode only) 7th September 2021 – 12th September 2021
Downloading Admit Card from NTA Website It will be announced later on the website
Dates of conduct of examination 6th October – 11th October 2021
Timing of examination First shift – 09:00 a.m. – 12:00 pm
Second shift – 03:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Provisional Answer Keys It will be announced later on the website
Declaration of Results on NTA Website It will be announced later on the website

Application fee

The candidates are required to make the payment through Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, and Wallet. Following are the details of fees applicable to different candidates:

General/ Unreserved Rs. 1000
Gen- EWS/ OBC-NCL (non-creamy layer) Rs. 500
SC/ST/PWD/ Third Gender Rs. 250

Instructions For Filling Online Application

Candidates must fill only one application form following the below-mentioned procedure:

  1. Log in to the NTA website ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Click on the Apply Online button. 
  2. Register online using the Email ID and Mobile No.
  3. Complete the application form by filling in all the required details.
  4. Upload the scanned images of (a) recent passport photograph with 80% face; (b) signature of the candidate.
  5. Make the payment by the various modes available and keep the proof of the fee paid.
  6. Download the duly filled application form for future reference.

Mode Of Examination

The UGC NET exam shall be conducted in the Computer Based Test (CBT) Mode on the respective centres as shall be indicated in the Admit Cards.

Pattern Of Exam

The said exam comprises two papers, Paper I and Paper II, both of objective multiple choice question patterns. Both the papers shall be conducted together without any break in between.

PAPER MARKS NO. OF QUESTIONS PATTERN DURATION
  I   100   50 This paper aims to the assessment of the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. Questions range from reasoning ability, comprehension, general awareness etc. 3 hours in total for both the papers without any break in between.
  II   200   100 This paper is based on the respective subject selected by the candidate and aims at assessment of the subject knowledge.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have secured a minimum of 55% marks (General/ Unreserved/ General- EWS) in a Master’s degree or equivalent exam from UGC recognized institution. The threshold is a minimum of 50% (OBC, SC, ST, PWD, Third Gender category).
  • Eligibility for Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellow will depend on the performance of the candidate in the papers.
  • For the current exam, only candidates not more than 31 years on 01.03.2021 are eligible to apply. Relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to OBC is available.
  • There is, however, no upper age limit for Assistant Professor.

Analyse previous years’ papers

In order to clear the exam, one needs to be very clear of the pattern of questions asked in the exam. Previous years’ papers are the best way to analyse the exam pattern and analyse the frequency of questions being repeated and plan the preparation accordingly.

Prepare a dedicated study plan and timetable

Divide the syllabus, find out the subjects over which you have a strong grip and the weak ones and divide the time accordingly between the two.

Revision of Basics

In this short period of time, candidates must make short notes for quick and smart preparation. Regular revision must be undertaken to grasp the basics and understand the subject thoroughly.

Practice Mock Tests

Mock tests help the preparation in many ways. It helps to understand the strong and weak points in once preparation and to develop the right strategy ahead, focusing on all the strong and weak points. Mocks also aid in learning new techniques.
