With
an increase in the number of aspirants who appear for exams including
Post-graduate entrance exams of Law like CLAT, AILET, and CUCET for admission to
some of the premier institutions in the country, it can become a daunting task
when you want to come out of them with not only good marks but flying colors to
ensure your candidature in the course offered by these institutions. Since most
of these exams are scheduled to be held in June or the coming months, it
becomes important to have a strategy so that even if you can round up the whole
syllabus before exams, you do not miss anything important which might cost you
a question in finale exam.
Although
when we look at the syllabus of these exams they might have some subjects in
common from the previous year as well the pattern of all these exams has gone
significant changes in recent times. Also, CUET which is being organized for the
first time for entrance to Central University by the National Testing Agency poses
another challenge as there is no previous year’s question paper to refer to.
So, revising the subjects becomes even more necessary. Before we look at the
tips, a brief understanding of the syllabus of these exams can be done which is
as follows-
CLAT- consists of 120 objective questions from subjects such as Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour & Industrial Law. The paper consists of Comprehension type questions, with paragraphs from court decisions, statutes, etc.
AILET- Consist of 2 parts – Part A consist of objective type questions with 100 multiple choice questions, this has been further divided into two parts Part 1: English language (50 questions; 50 marks) Part 2: Legal reasoning (50 questions; 50 marks) and Section B consist of two descriptive questions.
CUET- Organized by NTA for entrance to Central Universities for various subjects. The syllabus consists of conventional subjects such as Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, International Law, Family Law, and Contract but also consists of Non-conventional subjects such as Banking Laws, Insurance Laws, Taxations laws, etc.
Following
are some tips that a candidate can incorporate to ensure that his/her
preparation is in line with the difficulty and the competitiveness of the exam.
Consistent Practice of Previous year papers– Apart from CUCET, most of these exams have a previous year question paper available. Readthe expected questions in CLAT PG 2022. This can not only provide you with a set of questions for the wide variety of subjects that these exams have in their syllabus but also provide you with some topics on which the exams have been concentrating. For CUCET, online or offline Mock Tests could be practiced.
Make
Short Notes– When we revise a particular subject
of law, which requires a whole lot of memorization, it becomes difficult to
keep everything in mind. But if we have ready personalized notes on a topic on
which we usually stumble it can become easy with consistency. This tailor-made
approach may appear tiresome but will prove beneficial in long run. This can
also prove handy when we talk of preparing the judgment which is beneficial especially
for CLAT if you prepare a list of judgments that has gained significance over
the years.
Regular
Mock Practice and revising the wrong questions
– Due to the time-bound nature of these exams, it becomes necessary to attempt
it accurately in a given time. MOCKs can come in handy in ensuring this. Also,
it makes one aware of their strong and weak areas. Due to the negative marking
scheme of these exams, it becomes necessary that you should not attempt a large
no of correct questions. Revising and going over the wrong answers are equally
important.
Regular reading of Newspaper Editorials– Since most of these exams have a subjective portion which may consist of elaboration or any expressing one’s opinion as well, these editorials can help one be prepared to structure their answer and improve their formation of answers as well. Newspapers also make one aware of the current legal issues and other matters which can sometimes be asked directly. When forming subjective answers, it is also important to be precise at the same time. You can access our Recent Legal News Archives and our Blogs on legal updates from around the globe.
Brushing up on the non-conventional subjects– Conventional Subjects about a particular exam are usually what is focused upon by a person when they began their preparation. Since all through the preparation period, the student focuses particularly on these subjects, the non-conventional subjects like Banking and Insurance Laws, Victimology, etc. in case of CUCET and other such subjects when we look at another exam, maybe over looked by them, so it is important to focus on concepts of these subjects as they can very well ensure their place in merit list if they could provide correct answers to the questions asked from these subjects.
Wide
Variety of Questions and revising known concepts –
As it is clear from the changing pattern of examinations, not only MCQs but problem-solving
questions have also been added and they not only require knowledge of the law
but also application. This can only be done by practice so that one can become
well-equipped if there is any change in the pattern of questions being asked. Also,
one must refrain from reading new concepts at the last moment but should focus
on revising the known concepts, so that there is no error when questions are
attempted from such areas.
Consistent
Writing Practice- No amount of reading can
prove helpful to a particular person if they are not able to produce results in
an exam. This result cannot be ensured if one does not practice writing whether
it consists of answers or putting forth our opinion on a particular legal
matter. This can also help one to improve their speed and thus manage time.
Even if all the topics could not be covered in an elaborative manner but we can
equip ourselves with some of the crucial facts or statistics or important
reasons which can help us substantiate our answers and keep the facts in mind
to frame the answers and essays in a better manner.
Recreation activity to ease off the pressure– As carrying out the above activities along with the pressure of preparation can take a toll on one’s mind. So to blow off the heat, one can devote some part of the time to any activity which they find recreational whether sports or even meditation can be done, this can help a student gain a better perspective of things and to avoid situations that can make them nervous just before the final exams and hamper the efforts and hard work put forth by them all the months for preparations.
