Big Update! UGC NET (LAW) – DEC 2022: Eligibility, Age Limit, Fees, Pattern, Marking Scheme, Exam date

Important dates:

  • APPLICATION FORM: 29 December 2022 to 17 January 2023 (upto 05:00 P.M)
  • DATE OF EXAM: 21 February 2023 to 10 March 2023
  • CORRECTION: 19-20 January 2023 (upto 11:50 P.M)
  • Downloading of Admit Card: 2nd week of February 2023

What is the UGC NET exam?

  • UGC-NET is a test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities and colleges.
  • Candidates appear in the subject of their Post-Graduation
  • Computer Based Test (CBT) mode

Eligibility criteria

  • General/Unreserved/General-EWS = at least 55% marks
  • OBC/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks
  • Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or whose results are still awaited may also apply for this test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for the award of JRF/eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination with at least 55% marks (50%. Such candidates must complete their Master’s degree or equivalent examination within two years from the date of NET result with the required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

STRATEGY TO PREPARE PAPER- I OF UGC NET/JRF

Age Limit and Relaxation

JRF: Not more than 31 years

Relaxation:

  • Three years of relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates with an L.L.M. degree.
  • Upto 5 years is provided to OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender categories and to women applicants

Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit in applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor.

Pattern of Examination:

Marking Scheme

  1. Each question carries 02 (two) marks.
  2. For each correct response, the candidate will get 02 (two) marks.
  3. There is no negative marking for incorrect responses.
  4. If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers will be given the credit.
  5. If a question is found to be incorrect and the question is dropped, then two marks (+2) will be awarded to all those who have appeared in the exam.

Result criteria

  • The number of candidates to be qualified (total slots or Eligibility for Assistant Professor) shall be equal to 6% of the candidates appearedin both the papers of NET.
  • In order to be considered for ‘JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor’ and for ‘Assistant Professor’, the candidate must have appeared in both the papers and secured at least 40% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for General (Unreserved) / General-EWS category candidates and at least 35% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for all candidates belonging to the reserved categories (viz., SC, ST, OBC (belonging to Non- Creamy Layer), PwD and Third gender).
