National Law University Meghalaya has released the notification for the LLM admission exam for 2023. The application process started on 28th April 2023, and the last date for filling out the online application form has been extended to 24th May 2023. Candidates can fill out the application form online by visiting the official website of NLU, Meghalaya, at the following link – NLU Meghalaya – Excellence in Legal Education | Transforming Future Legal Professionals. Applications have been invited for Postgraduate Programme 2023 through Admission Test and Interview.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME

The Postgraduate Programme at National Law University, Meghalaya, will be offered in two forms:

  • Regular two years Residential Programme and
  • Micro-degree Credit Postgraduate Programme (MDCPP) is offered in hybrid mode along with a short campus stay. The total credit requirement for MDCPP will be the same as residential Postgraduate Programmes and will follow the same credit requirement for taught and non-taught courses. The students may convert Micro Degree Credits into Postgraduate degrees on completion of stipulated credits;

To complete the Postgraduate Programme requirements, a student must accumulate a minimum of 80 and a maximum of 140 credits within a two-year period.

The following programme is available for 2023: Master of Laws [LL.M (Major in Corporate Law)]

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • First Division/class (60% or 6.5 on 10 point scale) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B/B.L (5 years) program from any recognised National or International University; or
  • First Division/class (60% or 6.5 on 10 point scale) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B/B.L (3 years) program from any recognised National or International University along with a Bachelor’s Degree (not less than 3 years) in Humanities / Science/ Commerce or equivalent. If the degree awarding Institute/University does not explicitly mention “First Class”, then the eligibility will be a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale.
  • Those appearing in the final examination of the last qualifying degree are eligible to apply. In such cases, they must attach proof of CGPA till the last semester

MODE OF SELECTION

On receipt of applications, the same will be scrutinised. For shortlisting of candidates, the following will be considered:

  • NLU Meg Postgraduate Admission Test [MEG PAT]
  • Personal Interview

The shortlisted candidates from [MEG PAT] will be intimated through SMS, Email/ WhatsApp.

MEG PAT DETAILS

NLU Meghalaya Postgraduate Admission Test [MEG PAT] will be of total 100 Marks. Questions worth 70 Marks will be from the subject knowledge in law. The remaining 30 Marks will be for writing an Essay on Legal Issues.

PERSONAL INTERVIEW DETAILS

  1. On select dates, the shortlisted candidates are required to appear in cities of their choice as indicated in the application form or as assigned to them by University. The Personal Interview assessment will be in two stages:
  2. Final Result in the last qualifying degree. Applicants are required to produce the certificates in original for verification;
  3. Appear for an interview before the selection board.
  1. Students will be marked on the following criteria – general proficiency, communication abilities, interest in pursuing the field, and knowledge of the subject (in the case of LLM). The final list of candidates will be declared based on the performance in the final round and number of available seats.
  2. It may be noted that candidates who are awaiting certificates of the final qualifying degree will be given an extended period of 15 days (not exceeding 25th June, 2023) to submit/send their degree certificate to the University.

APPLICATION FEE

For all applicants, the application fee is Rs. 3000/- [Three thousand only], except for state-domiciled persons who are required to pay Rs. 1500/- [Fifteen hundred only].

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Applicants are required to log in to the portal and register [www.nlumeg.ac.in]. Once they receive the login id and password, they are required to fill up the online application with all details and submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) indicating their career goals and reasons for opting for a dual degree in law for undergraduate and postgraduate. Such SOP should not exceed 500 words.
  2. After completing their application form, they are required to pay the requisite application fee and click the submit button after verifying the details. Please note that incomplete applications and/or applications without fee payment will not be processed. 
  3. All applications are to be submitted online. There is no provision for hard copy submission.
  4. The following documents are required to fill online application form:
  5. Last available Degree Certificate.
  6. EWS/OBC (Non-creamy)/SC/ST/PD/ Domicile certificate (if applicable)
  7. Identity Card (Aadhar/ Passport/PAN, Driving Licence)
  8. Statement of Purpose (SOP) to cover the following:
  9. Career Goals
  10. Interest in pursuing the specific programme

EXAMINATION CENTRES

The candidates will have to choose only two cities from the list of cities mentioned in the application portal.

  1. Kolkata, West Bengal
  2. Guwahati, Assam
  3. Shillong, Meghalaya
  4. Tura, Meghalaya
  5. Delhi

NLU MEGHALAYA LLM

The University is committed to providing a blended mode of learning, incorporating both in-house faculties and faculties from universities in India and overseas. Programmes in the university promote exchange and semester offs to conduct research in collaborative institutes or universities under the supervision of experienced faculty and industry expert. The Postgraduate Programme will be for two years. The academic year will comprise three trimesters, beginning in July each year.

The candidates will be shortlisted for LLM in NLU, Meghalaya, on the basis of their score in the NLU Meg Postgraduate Admission Test [MEG PAT] and a personal interview round.
