Govt. of NCT of Delhi v. Union of India:

Supreme Court Constitution Bench decision relates to the interpretation of power of Chief Minister and Lietuant Governor of Delhi. The Supreme Court held that NCT of Delhi has legislative and executive power over administrative services in the National Capital, excluding matters relating to public order, police and land. The LG is bound by the decision of Delhi government over services, apart from public order, police and land.

Subhash Desai v. Principal Secretary, Governor of Maharashtra:

Supreme Court Constitution Bench held that the decision of Maharashtra Governor to call for a floor test based on the rebellion of Eknath Shinde-led faction was wrong as he had no objective material on the basis of which he could doubt the confidence of the incumbent governmentThe Court held that however, restoration of the Uddhav Thackeray government cannot be ordered as he resigned without facing floor test.

Animal Welfare Board of India v. Union of India:

Supreme Court Constitution Bench upheld the constitutional validity of the State amendments to Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra to allow animal sports like Jalikattu, Kambala and bull-cart racing in these respective States. The Court also held that the amendment Act are Not “colourable legislations” as the State Legislature has power under Entry 17 to List III of the 7th Schedule of the Constitution of India.

Society for the Rights of Backward Communities v. Janhit Abhiyan:

Supreme Court Constitution Bench has dismissed the review petition filed against the Constitution Bench judgment which upheld the validity of the 103rd Constitutional Amendment which introduced 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in education and public employment.

Shilpa Sailesh v. Varun Sreenivasan:

Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has held that the Supreme Court can invoke special powers u/a 142 of the Constitution to grant divorce on the ground of irretrievable breakdown of marriage, which is not yet a statutorily recognised ground Additionally, waiting period for mutual consent divorce can also be waived by Supreme Court invoking Article 142.

All India Judges Association v. Union of India:

The 3-judges bench of the Supreme Court has refused to that 50% of HC judges should be recruited from judicial services The ratio between judges from district judiciary and from bar be maintained at least as 1:3.

Aureliano Fernandes v. State of Goa:

The 2-judges bench of the Supreme Court has issued directions for the proper implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. Supreme Court has also directed all Govts, Statutory Professional Bodies, Universities to ensure ICCs are constituted under POSH Act.

Union of India v. Deloitte Haskins and Sells LLP:

The 2-judges bench of the Supreme Court has upheld the constitutional valdity of Section 140 (5) of Companies Act, 2013 (dealing with Removal, Resignation of Auditor and Giving of Special Notice). The Court held that Section 140 (5) is neither discriminatory, arbitrary and/or violative of Articles 14, 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.
